DO YOU PRE-ORDER BOOKS?

The other day I was browsing my TBR list and looking up the forthcoming titles on Bookdepository. One thing led to another and I ended up pre-ordering some of my most awaited titles. Which got me thinking... do you guys pre-order books or not?

PHYSICAL COPY VS. E-BOOK

When it comes to pre-ordering, I pre-order only paperbacks or hardcovers, never ever e-books. Why? I prefer to have only unread ARCs or currently reading books on my kindle. Simply said, I like to keep my kindle library as organized as possible. I do regular clean ups of my kindle library and delete all read e-books except those I plan to re-read in the future. So if I want to read particular e-book now or in imminent future, I buy it now but I never pre-order it. Maybe this sounds weird to some of you, but that's how I roll :)

MONEY SAVING

The main reason behind my pre-orders is the fact that pre-ordered books are cheaper. If you pre-order, you always get a discount from 10% to 30%. And if you plan to buy this or that book anyway, why not to save up some money while doing so? Moreover, if you use Amazon, they have a "Pre-Order Price Guarantee". So if you order now and if the Amazon price decreases between your order time and the end of the day of the release date, you'll receive the lowest price. Isn't that fabulous?

BOOKSHELF OCD

Another reason for my decision to pre-order is visual part of my bookshelves. When I start collecting some series in print, I have to have all the books in series in the same edition, height and ideally even by the same publisher. I am OCD like that. One of my bookish worries is being unable to get all the books in series in the same height and edition. Believe me, the fear is real. It had happened to me before. I had hesitated with buying sequels and in meantime publisher pulled down the big format paperbacks and started to sell small mass market paperback editions. So whenever I buy first book in series, next instalments have to match. Hence my obsession with pre-ordering sequels so I do not miss out on getting the exact format that I want.
